Most people have experienced garments being shrunk at some stage - here are a few tips from inside the trade on how to limit this happening....
Pre wash: Turn Inside Out, Turn Collar up and button up.
( always check washing instructions)
Washing - Washing on 30 is normally much less risk of exposing cotton to a heat that may shrink it a tad , now and again it may need a 40 but generally 30 is fine.
Sometimes......Could you wear it again before washing ?
Once it is out he machine ont just leave it in a ball - reshape it ( 20 seconds) and hang it up - ideally on a line upside down and inside out ( more shade the better) or inside on a clothes horse AVOID - Tumble dryers and directly on hot radiators - it may well shrink the cotton.
This way garms will keep their shape and colour for longer... We know a lot of this is stating the obvious but we all want to get the best value for money of of our gear and do our bit for the environment while we're at it!!
